Christine Villa Nunez

Christine Villa Nuñez, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, faithful servant of God and life-long resident of Artesia, N.M. entered eternal rest on Friday, January 23, 2026, at the age of 101.

Christine was born on April 14, 1924, to Candelario Villa and Agueda Heredia Villa. She was the youngest of ten children, she survived six sisters and three brothers. She leaves a nephew, two nieces, and their families, along with her husband's two siblings and their families. She was raised on a family farm where faith, hard work and generosity were daily lessons. Christine reflected her Christian values through more than 20 years dedicated to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church serving as a lector, catechism teacher, and fiesta volunteer. She faced life without fear, knowing her faith would carry her. She was loyal to her friends and always ready to help those in need. Christine was not afraid to face new experiences and joined the band at Artesia High School, was a Girl Scout leader insuring that girls in her community could expand their horizons; she also was a voting judge and voting volunteer. With her husband, Abel, they built a small business in Artesia and raised two daughters, Violanda and Loretta. Christine was known for her quick wit, her affection for sports and gardening. She was an active member of her community and ensured those around her were appreciated.

She took great pride in her grandchildren, Mia Morales Nuñez, and Niko Milan Newtown. She found deep joy in her great grandchildren, Urijah Abel Luna, Eligh Jett Cobos, and Gabriel Ricardo Lucero. She celebrated their lives and was there to provide comfort and love.

Christine's greatest hope was that her life was pleasing to God and meaningful to those she loved. her legacy of faith, kindness and strength will be fondly remembered to all who were blessed to know her.

 A viewing will be held from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Thursday, February 5, 2026, with a recitation of a rosary to follow immediately. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 6, 2026 with internment to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. The viewing, rosary, and funeral service will take place at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.
