Charles Arthur Carter

April 20, 1956 — May 3, 2026

Charles "Charlie" Arthur Carter, 70, passed away on May 3, 2026, leaving behind a life built on hard work and a deep love for his family.

Charlie was born on April 20, 1956, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Charles "Tex" Carter and Maureen (Wilson) Carter.

As a young man, he served in the United States Navy, where he experienced both the 1976 New York Bicentennial and the Belknap-Kennedy collision. After his time in the service, he spent 45 years in the oil field, eventually running his own business alongside his family.

Charlie believed in a few simple things: work hard, treat people right, love your family, and take life as it comes. He set daily examples of this. Every Christmas, he'd pick names off the Angel Tree, and send Carla to Lubbock with a credit card and simple instructions: load up.

He loved Carla, his wife of 45 years, and was affectionate with, and proud of, his three sons. As "Papa Chuck," he showed up for his grandkids-cheering them on, teasing them, and loving them big.

On any given Sunday, you could find Charlie cheering for the Dallas Cowboys (loyally, stubbornly) and keeping a close eye on his fantasy football team. He also loved hunting, grilling, and a good old Western movie.

Life is going to feel a little less without Charlie-less gruff, less funny, less warm. But he'll stick around in the stories we tell, in the habits we learned from him, and in the love we share as a family.

"It ain't dying I'm talking about, it's living. I doubt it matters where you die, but it matters where you live." -Larry McMurtry, Lonesome Dove

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Billy Dean Carter.

He is survived by his wife, Carla Carter; his sons Jason (Mattie) Carter, Cody (Codie) Carter, and CJ (Lexi) Carter; his grandchildren Daven, Demri, Cole, Brynlee, and Cate; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
