Carrie Godley

Graveside services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 27, at Avis Cemetery, Avis, N.M. for Carrie Lois Munson Godley of Hagerman, New Mexico.

Mrs. Godley, passed away on August 24, 2018 at San Pedro Nursing and Rehab Center in Artesia, New Mexico.

Jim Hickerson will officiate at the services. Honorary pallbearers will be Alton Munson, Timmy James, Lee Clark, Trustin Munson, Kelly Munson, Justin Munson, Cody Munson and Jim Webber.

Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary Sunday, August 26, from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Carrie Lois was born February 17, 1926 in Alamogordo, N.M.to Cecil Munson and Sadie Anderson Munson. Carrie spent her childhood on her grandfather Jimmy Anderson's ranch and at Avis, New Mexico. She attended school 8 years at Avis Rock School and one year high school in Artesia, two years Weed High School,completing high school at Eastern New Mexico College where she received a Bachelor Degree in Education. She later received a Master's Degree from New Mexico Western College in Silver City, New Mexico. Carrie taught school for 35 years in schools in Artesia, Pinon, Weed, Cloudcroft and Ruidoso before retiring.

Carrie Lois married Jim Godley on August 23, 1946 in Carrizozo, New Mexico. They were happily married for 55 years before the death of Jim, September 17, 2001.

Carrie was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Alton M. "Grubbs" Munson of Artesia, sister Betty Kay Munson Clark of Caballo, New Mexico, niece Saren Munson Quiroz, and nephew Harold Clark, Jr. She is survived by one sister Cora Joyce Munson James and husband Benny of Valdey, Alaska, and one brother Hollis Munson and wife Linda of Bennington, Oklahoma, many nieces and nephews including Tim James, Robin James, Karen Webber and husband Jim, Trustin Munson and wife Diedra, Starlyn Munson, Marcell Woolsey and husband Chance, Lee Clark and wife Debbie, Debbie Bodenchuck, and Susie Sprague; and many great-nieces and nephews.

Having no children of her own Carrie has been cared for by her nephew and his wife Alton and Wanda Munson of Hagerman, New Mexico.
