A viewing will be held for Burnie R. Nicholson, Jr. from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Ballard Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 10:00 am on January 15, 2026, at South Park Cemetery.

Honored to be pallbearers will be Burnie R. Nicholson, III, Alonzo Acosta, Jr., Kyle Mesquita, Joshua Acosta, Alonzo Acosta, Sr., and Lawrence Boyd.

Burnie was called home on January 10, 2026, in Roswell, New Mexico. He was born on March 27, 1963, to Burnie and Julie (Franco) Nicholson, Sr., in Roswell.

Burnie had a loving and caring heart, giving anything he had to anyone who needed it. He took in family when they needed a place to go. He jumped at the opportunity to teach his son and nephews "quick" mechanic jobs, house repairs, and even cooking techniques. Fatherhood came so naturally to him. He was thought of as a second father figure to many.

Burnie proudly continued his dad's legacy by bringing his family together with camping trips, poker nights, and cook outs. He was a true man of God always ready to share His word and never hesitated to say a prayer for you. He nobly joined the Roswell Veterans Honor Guard seeing it as an opportunity to humbly honor anybody who served our country.

Burnie loved his grandsons deeply and was most proud of his son and daughter, bragging on them to anyone who would listen.

Greeting him with open arms will be his pop, Burnie R. Nicholson, Sr.; brother, Jesse W. Nicholson, Sr.; and brother in law, John Ray.

Those left to cherish his memory and continue his legacy are his son, Burnie R. Nicholson, III and wife, Angelina; daughter, Brittny M. Nicholson and partner, Jakeb M. A. Wallace; grandsons, Kyle J. Mesquita and Angelo J. Nicholson; mother, Julie Nicholson; sister, Helen M. Ray; brother, Albert J. Nicholson; nephews and nieces, Jesse W. Nicholson, Jr., Jarrett J. Nicholson and husband, Daniel, Johnathan Acosta, Alonzo Acosta and wife, Wendy Taylor, Yvonne Acosta, Michelle Acosta, Albert Grajeda and wife, Amanda, David J. Nicholson, and Sara H. Nicholson; and his most beloved pup, Happy. It's only right to mention the many honorary nephews he took under his wing, earning him the well deserved tile of "Uncle Burn" to many outside the family.

Burnie, we called you by many names, son, brother, Uncle Burn, grandpa, and Dad. We'll proudly pass along your love and teachings to anyone who needs it, just as you taught us to. With all of our love, rest with God.
