Buddy Lee Simmons, 82, passed away surrounded by the love of his family on October 4, 2025, in Artesia, New Mexico. He was born on September 20, 1943, in Corona, New Mexico, to Lonnie and Mary (Jones) Simmons.
On March 25, 1961, Buddy married the love of his life, Brenda Simmons, beginning a remarkable journey together that spanned 64 years. Their enduring bond was an inspiration to all who knew them.
At just 16 years old, Buddy began his career with the Artesia Daily Press, showcasing a work ethic that would define his life. He went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army for eight years. After his military service, he dedicated over 30 years to Head Start, where he served as the maintenance supervisor, playing a vital role in supporting early childhood education.
Buddy was an avid horse enthusiast who found great joy in life's simple pleasures, especially spending time with his family. His warmth, humor, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Brenda Simmons; his brother Leon Simmons and sister-in-law Shirley Simmons; his children: Sherry Lee Simmons, Glenda Joyce Gray, Buddy W. Simmons and wife Shelley, and Curtis Paul Simmons and wife Crystal; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Buddy was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, remembered for his unwavering love, steady presence, and deep commitment to his family.
Celebration of life was held with family and close friends.
