Betty Hartley

A family memorial service will be held at a later date for Betty J. Hartley, 89, at the Moon Cemetery in Breckenridge, Texas.

Betty passed peacefully November 16, 2023 at Good Life in Artesia, New Mexico.

She was born September 10, 1934 in Mentone, TX to Kenneth Ray and Velva Violene Pendleton Stanton.  She attended school in Iraan, Texas where she met the love of her life Robert "Bob" Hartley.  They were married November 23, 1951 and had 4 daughters. They lived in several small towns in West Texas before moving to Artesia in 1963 for Bob's job with Marathon Oil Company.

Betty and Bob enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting but most of all bowling. They were avid bowlers and loved traveling to State and National Bowling Tournaments.

Betty worked for Artesia Public Schools. She was the librarian at Hermosa Elementary.

Upon their retirement, they moved to Ozona, Texas to care for elderly family members. They returned to Artesia in 2012, to be closer to their daughters adn grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband Bob in 2017, her parents, a brother, a sister, two daughters Karen Kelsey and Karrie "Nell" Garver, and grandson Casey Joe Maples.

Survivors include her daughters Cathy Houghtaling and husband Ronnie, Susie Maples and husband Pancho; son-in-law Ed Kelsey; 1 granddaughter, 8 grandsons, 30 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Shriners Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
