Betty Goodrich, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on April 23, 2026, in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Services for Mrs. Goodrich will be held on Wednesday, April 29, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Artesia, New Mexico. The rosary will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by the funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m.
Bertilla "Betty" Giacometti Goodrich, 88, was born in Salvatronda, Italy, on March 30, 1938. She grew up in a large farming family with four brothers and four sisters. Born during World War II, she and her family endured hardship and witnessed the devastation of war. After the war, she completed high school and attended some college before meeting her future husband, Raymond J. "Joe" Goodrich, who was serving in the U.S. Army and stationed in nearby Vicenza, Italy. They dated for two years, and after his discharge she relocated to Odessa, Texas, where they married in 1964. She later became a proud U.S. citizen. A devoted homemaker, she and Joe welcomed their first son, John Mark, in 1965, followed by Lance in 1969. The family moved to New Mexico in 1971.
Bertilla remained a devout Catholic throughout her life, placing Jesus Christ first and her family a close second. She dedicated herself to caring for her husband and sons, and when her grandson Tharen was born, she loved and cared for him as if he were a third son. Her granddaughters, Kathryn and Brogen Goodrich, were the daughters she never had, and she cherished them deeply. In her later years, she enjoyed gardening, watching EWTN Catholic television, and praying for others.
A talented cook, Bertilla loved feeding anyone who walked through her door. Friends and family were often greeted with, "Are you hungry? Have you eaten?"-and the time of day never mattered. She found joy in making others feel welcomed and cared for.
Though far from her homeland, she treasured her weekly phone calls with her sisters in Italy.
She was preceded in death by her parents and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond Joseph "Joe" Goodrich; her sons, John Goodrich and wife Lisa of El Paso, Texas, and Lance Goodrich and wife Robin of Artesia, New Mexico; and her grandchildren, Tharen, Kathryn, and Brogen Goodrich. She is also survived by her brothers Antonio Giacometti, Giorgio Giacometti and wife Marilena Squizzato, and her sister Dorotea Giacometti and spouse Albino Dovigi. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Anna Trevisan, widow of her brother Pietro Giacometti , along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Fr. Francis Lazer will officiate the services, with burial to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Goodrich, Lance Goodrich, Tharen Goodrich, James Moore, Samuel Cruz, and Robbie Burgess. Honorary pallbearers are Ricardo Rodriguez, Tim Winters, Jimmy Moon, and Mike Durham.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Good Life Senior and Memory Care Center in Carlsbad for their kindness and care during her final days. Special appreciation is also given to the Artesia Fire Department and EMS, as well as TransAero, for their compassion and for providing a safe and timely flight to Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Artesia or to a charity of your choice.
