Beatrice Polson

Memorial mass is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 7 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Beatrice Polson of Artesia, New Mexico.

Beatrice Polson, 80, beloved Wife and Mother, was called to her eternal resting place on February 1, 2018.

She entered this world on October 7, 1937 in Clayton Union, NM, born to Louis and Eufracia Frank.

Bea was always moving, a very industrious person who was capable in many areas. She was secretary to bank presidents in Clayton, Las Cruces and Artesia, New Mexico. She also worked in insurance, manufacturing, medical care administration and did a variety of work for various ministries.

On October 10, 1959 she was married to Charles Lynn Polson in Clayton, New Mexico.

To some she was a friend and counselor; to many young people she was "mom", "aunt Bea", "grandma" and "grandma Bea".

She also had certain ministries which stand out in a lifetime of service. In the 1970's she worked in Lovington, NM public schools as a volunteer with pre-school and elementary children in a bilingual program she pioneered, which not only taught them English but enhanced their lives and gave them self-confidence. She was, during that time in Lovington, a leader in the youth ministry of St. Thomas Catholic Church and was involved as a leader in the Charismatic renewal of the church. She played the piano and organ, sang and organized a choir for church services. She was a strong support for her husband in his studies and training to become an ordained deacon.

In the late 70's and early 80's she was involved with her husband in ministry to college students at the University of Texas at El Paso and El Paso Community College. Home away from home was Bea's house for many students. She continued her ministry as a prayer group leader and worked for the Diocese of El Paso in various capacities.

In the 90's she was involved with youth ministry at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Artesia. One of her proudest accomplishments was the establishment of "Cool Teens" youth ministry. In the years since, some of her happiest times were encounters with men and women who had been involved with "Cool Teens" or the ministries in Lovington and El Paso. During her time at Our Lady of Grace she was a teacher/ leader in the "Renacer" program and she organized and led the 24 hour a day adoration in the church with people scheduled around the clock to pray for the needs of individuals, the community, the church and the world. She continued her charismatic ministry both with individual counseling and in the Wednesday night worship service helping many in and to a life in Jesus Christ.

Some of her most fervent prayer through the years was for her husband and family. She was also faithful in prayer and in other ways for relatives, friends and others who found a way into her thoughts. She was active, especially late in life, with crocheting, knitting and quilting, making many things which others have treasured. She was an accomplished artist, mostly oil painting many pictures of all kinds, but especially life-like rural landscapes and other parts of nature, which she loved and was fascinated with. In addition to her love of people, she cared for hungry dogs, cats, birds and other animals. She loved life, she loved God and she loved people! She was a great blessing to so many people and we will all miss her sweet smile, her kindness, her hugs and her zest for life!

Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents; grandson Maddux Charles Polson; and sisters Aurelia Frank, Ida Frank, and Bernice Martinez.

Survivors include her husband Charles Polson of the family home; daughters Lynn Kendall and husband John of Vista, California and Karen Reyes and husband Albert of Artesia; sons Jon Polson and fiance Rhonda Geller of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Chris Polson and wife Heather of Broken Arrow, OK; sisters Mary Allen of Spearman, TX, Helen Trujillo and Sara Lovato; and grandchildren David Kendall, Carlie Reyes, and Erica Reyes.
