First Baptist Church
1:00 - 2:00 pm (Mountain time)
Services are scheduled for 1 pm Tuesday, November 10, at First Baptist Church for Yvonne Polk of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mrs. Polk died on November 5, 2026 in Artesia.
Yvonne was born on April 6, 1937, in Texarkana, Texas. Although born in Texas, Artesia, New Mexico, was always her home. A lifelong resident of Artesia, Yvonne came from a family whose roots in the community stretch back more than 100 years. She was proud of her hometown, her family's history, and the generations of memories made there.
Yvonne graduated from Artesia High School in 1955 and continued her education in Portales, New Mexico, where she met the love of her life, Lloyd. The two were married in Artesia on August 26, 1956, beginning a lifetime of love, devotion, and family.
In 1961, Yvonne and Lloyd made their home on Booker Street, where they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. It was a place where generations of family gathered and where so many of life's special moments were shared.
A devoted Christian, Yvonne's faith was the foundation of her life. Her family's connection to First Baptist Church of Artesia spanned generations, dating back to 1931, when her grandfather served as a preacher at the church. Yvonne carried on that legacy of faith and devotion throughout her lifetime, becoming the church's longest-standing continuous member. First Baptist was more than a place of worship to Yvonne; it was a second home, a source of strength, and a cherished part of her family's history. Her unwavering faith guided her life and was reflected in the love and kindness she shared with those around her.
Yvonne loved sewing, cooking, and spending time with those closest to her. Among the fondest family memories were Sunday afternoons enjoying homemade ice cream, a tradition that brought generations together. She had a way of making ordinary moments special, creating memories that her family will carry with them for years to come.
Above all, Yvonne cherished her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was defined by faith, devotion, and the love she shared so freely.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lloyd; her parents; her son, Mel; and her brothers, Jimmy and Johnny.
She is survived by her son, Bill, and his wife, Cindy; her daughter, Jerrie, and her husband, Troy; her sister, Connie; her grandchildren, Dustin and his wife, Sara; Brandi and her husband, Wade; Jimmy and his wife, Merrily; Josh and his wife, Megan; and Jonathan and his wife, Faith; her great-grandchildren, Ayden, Tinsey, Karter, Noah, Kimber, Alexandria, Simeon, Aaron, and Ezekiel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
To her family, she was more than Yvonne. She was Mamama - a name filled with love, comfort, and a lifetime of memories. She will be remembered in the little things: the familiar warmth of her home on Booker Street, the meals she lovingly prepared, the homemade ice cream shared on Sundays, and the simple joy of being together. Those moments, which may have seemed ordinary at the time, are now some of the most precious gifts she leaves behind.
While her family will miss her more than words can express, they find comfort in knowing that her faith carried her throughout her life and that she is now at peace, reunited with those she loved who went before her. Her family will continue to honor her by holding tight to the traditions, memories, and love she passed down through the generations.
The house on Booker Street holds a lifetime of memories, but Mamama's true home will always be in the hearts of those who loved her. She will be missed at every family gathering, remembered with every Sunday scoop of homemade ice cream, and loved for all the generations to come.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Polk, Ayden Huffman, Wade Barnes, Jimmy Darnell, Josh Darnell, and Jonathan Darnell.
