Anna Lou Chandler was born March 3, 1933 in Abilene, Texas to Ethel and Fronis Jones. She graduated high school in Andrews, Texas and then attended college in Plainview, Texas at Wayland Baptist College where she met the love of her life Sanford Chandler.
Sanford and Anna Lou were married in Andrews on May 26, 1956 and then resided Lordsburg, New Mexico where they started their family.
Anna Lou and Sanford moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico in 1962 to begin their teaching careers and raise their family.
Anna Lou began teaching at Sunset Elementary where she taught 5th grade. In the early 1980's the Junior High was changed to 6th and 7th grades and Anna Lou went to Eisenhower to teach 6th grade English. She retired from teaching in 1995 with a long career of teaching school.
Anna Lou enjoyed her docent work at Carlsbad Medical Center and the Living Desert State Park. She was also a member of Red Hats and her Bunco group. She was a life member of Alpha Delta Kappa. She loved her church, First Baptist, where she taught first graders for many years. She loved to travel and was able to visit all fifty states and about 15 countries.
Her survivors are her daughter Sherri Chandler and life companion Kay Doss; son Dudley Chandler and wife Debbie; granddaughters Courtney Horton and husband Derek, and Cegourney and Kelly Stoffle; great-granddaughter Cadance all of Midland, Texas; a brother Glenn Jones of Odessa, Texas; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held for Anna Lou from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday, August 1, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Carlsbad, NM, with a funeral service to immediately follow at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Carlsbad Cemetery. Howell Scott will officiate the service.
