Maria Alvarado

Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 6 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Maria de Jesus Alvarado of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Alvarado, 70, died Saturday, October 1, 2016 at her home with her family by her side.

Fr. Martin Cornejo will officiate at the services with burial to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. A rosary will be at Our Lady of Grace Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Pallbearers will be Jesus Manuel Torres, Rigo Alvarado, Travis Wilkinson, Jose Torres, Felix Castillo, Domingo Torres, Freddy Torres, and Saul Torres.

Maria was born February 20, 1946 in Mexico to Epifano Torres and Paula (Urias) Torres.

In 1974 she married Jose Alvarado in Mexico. They came to Artesia in 1979 and she has been an Artesia resident since then.

Maria was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling to different casinos and to visit her son in Mexico and loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son Refugio Alvarado in 2015; and a brother Eugenio Torres.

Survivors includer her husband Jose Alvarado of the family home; daughter Maria Wilkinson and Ramiro Lerma of Artesia; sons Jesus Manuel Torres and wife Kathy of Carlsbad, N.M., Rigo Alvarado and wife Dianna of Artesia, and Juan Alvarado and wife Yesica of Mexico; sister Victoria Medrano of Mexico; brothers Rito Torres and wife Nancy of Artesia, Jose Torres and wife Refugia of Monahans, Texas, and Benino Baeza of Albuquerque, N.M.; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
