A come and go gathering is scheduled for 2 pm to 4 pm, Sunday, December 2, at 1506 W. Briscoe Ave., for Bettie Sue Watson Spencer of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mrs. Spencer, 86, died November 27, 2018 in Artesia.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2018 at the Tye Baptist Church in Tye, Texas. Frank Schultz will officiate at the services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.
Sue was born January 11, 1932 in Tye, Texas to Henry King and Bettie Roquemore King.
On July 26, 1949 she was married to J.B. Watson in Tye. They moved to Artesia in 1956 from Healdton, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on February 21, 1986.
On October 2, 1987 she married Billy Spencer in Artesia.
Sue was a homemaker and member of the Baptist denomination. She was a school bus driver for over 25 years and also made commercial drapes out of her home. She loved to do crafts, garden, cook and collect turtles. She had many live turtles in her yard and was known as the Turtle Lady of Artesia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings and grandsons Jay and Justin Schultz.
Survivors include her husband Billy Spencer; daughters Vicki Wilburn of Waco, Texas and Diane Schultz of Arlington, Texas; step-sons David Spencer of Artesia, and Randy Spencer of Artesia; step-daughter Kathy Spencer of Waco, Texas; grandchildren Scott Gibson and Tiffini Gibson; great grandchildren AveryGibson, Thomas Gibson and Max Gibson; step grandchildren Eric Spencer, Logan Spencer, Micah Spencer and Reese Spencer; and by two step-great-grandchildren.
The family has requested memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity of choice.
My condolences to the family of Bettie "Sue" Spencer. May the love of God continue to embrace and comfort you during this time. I have many fond memories of her driving us on field trips and a special, loving, friendship that we developed.
