Anna was a long time resident of Artesia, moving here in 1929 from Roswell. She was a homemaker, a member of Our Lady of Grace, Apostalado, Cursillistas, and the San Jose Committee. She was a volunteer at the Meal Site and at Head Start.
She was self-educated, teaching herself how to read, write and speak English and Spanish. She competed in the Senior Olympics up until the age of 90. Anna still lived in the adobe house that her husband built in 1929.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, 4 sisters, 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Survivors include her sons Reuben Baca and Johnny Baca of Artesia; daughters Petrita Baca of Rio Rancho, NM, Isabel Acosta of Artesia, Helen Salgado of Las Cruces, NM and Erlinda Briseno of Artesia; sister Valentina Mendoza of Roswell; 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
My spouse and I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the
family and our hearts go out to each one of you. Anna was the last of the
"hood" matriarchs and long time neighbor. As I grew up with her own
kids, she always showed her strong & resilient disposition and always had
kind words and humor. She has certainly earned her peace and place in Heaven.
She will be missed.

Our family wanted to express their sincere condolences in this your time of sorrow. We found this verse encouraging during our time of loss. "Praised be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our trials so that we may be able to comfort others in any sort of trial with the comfort that we receive from God." 2 Corinthians 1:3,4. At John 5:28,29 Jesus spoke about the hope of the resurrection. You are in our thoughts as well.
