James Ivey Edwards

Services are scheduled at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 3 at First United Methodist Church, 420 S. Jefferson St., Clarendon, Texas  for Rev. James Ivey Edwards of Artesia, N.M. James, 68, died Tuesday, February 28, 2012 in Lubbock, Texas. Rev. Jay Gage of Midland, Texas will officiate at the services. Cremation will take place. No public visitation is planned. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church, 500 W. Grand, Artesia, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Thursday.

James was born on November 17, 1943 in Bainbridge, Georgia, to James Bruce Edwards and Von Biggs Edwards. He was raised in Amarillo, Texas and graduated from Amarillo High School. He attended college at West Texas University, the University of Texas at Austin, and Perkins School of Theology at SMU in Dallas. He married Donna Gentry in 1965 in Amarillo. James was a professional artist specializing in western and wildlife landscapes and bronze sculpture before entering full-time ministry in the Methodist church in 1990. He has recently served on the board of Habitat for Humanity, and been involved in Boy Scouts and Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization in Artesia.

James was in active ministry at the time of his death at the First United Methodist Church of Artesia. He served faithfully and lovingly in ministry for the Lord in the Methodist church for 22 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a newborn son, and a 17 year old son, Scott, and a brother, Ronald Perry Edwards.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Donna Edwards of the family home; daughters Andrea Hayward and husband Larry of Weatherford, Texas, and Kelly O'Brien and husband Corey of Dallas; five grandchildren Jordan and Adalyn of Weatherford, and Caden, Conner, and Kenna of Dallas; a brother John Edwards and wife Donna of Collyville, Texas; an aunt, Fran Biggs of Stanton, Texas, Martha Gentry of Amarillo, and several nieces and nephews and other dear family members.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1492, Artesia, NM or First United Methodist Church, 420 S. Jefferson St., Clarendon, TX.
